Wheat, Playdough, and Pancakes

Wheat is a very important plant that we grow that we use to cook and bake lots of foods with! Do you know what we turn wheat into?.... FLOUR! Do you love bread, bagels, pizza, and cakes? Then you love flour, because we need flour to bake lots of yummy foods.

Below you will find videos and activities to help you learn all about wheat and flour.

Love to cook? With an adult's help, cook some homemade pancakes! As you cook the pancakes, see how the flour feels, looks, and smells. Watch how the flour changes as you add the milk and other foods to the bowl or bag. What happens when you mix all of the ingredients together? What happens to the batter when you add it to your hot pan to cook it?

Love to get dirty? Make some homemade playdough! Have an adult help you find the flour, oil, salt, and water to make the playdough. Watch what happens to the flour as you keep mixing it together. What happens to everything when you press and fold it all together? Be careful though- the playdough is for playing, not eating!

Scroll through the pictures below to find the recipes for playdough, pancakes, and vocabulary about wheat.

Ms. Megan also shows you how to make flour at home! Watch as she turns wheat seeds, or wheatberries, into flour using two different machines.
