Winter on the Farm

Agriculture does not stop when the temperatures get colder! Farmers are still working hard to take care of animals on the farm and many farmers are planning ahead for the next year.

Some farmers still have fresh fruits and vegetables that they sell throughout the winter. You can visit Broome County Regional Farmer's Market all year round to buy fresh food from local farmers... even when it's cold outside!

Look below for some videos and activities related to farming in the winter.

Evergreens

Evergreens are popular in November and December as we use them to celebrate holidays with. A lot of farmers grow and take care of evergreens throughout the year so that we can use them as decorations! It takes a lot of work for farmers to grow evergreen trees, and they care for them for 6-10 years before we cut them down. Whew, that is a lot of work! Below is a video to learn about a farm in Oregon that grows over 1,000,000 trees on their farm.
